SUMMER SERIES

Rest

Rest is our first experience with the Creator.

It's a theme we see throughout the Story of God. From the very beginning in the Garden, to Jesus' invitation to us -

we were made to rest before we work.

This summer we're on a journey to experience God's rest and to sync our rhythms with His. It feels a little backwards in this world of hustle culture, but what better time than summer to create space for renewal and refreshment? Let's go.

Message Lineup

July 2 - Kevin Armstrong, REST: an Intro.*Community Dinner, Tuesday evening

July 7 - Jeff Phail, THE CASE FOR REST

July 14 - Kevin Armstrong, THE WAY OF REST

July 28 - Jeff Phail, THE WORLDS OF 'FIRE AND ICE': BECOMING PEOPLE OF REST

August 6 -  RHYTHMS OF REST *Community Dinner, Tuesday evening

August 11 - Ian Harley, SABBATH

August 18 - Kevin Armstrong & Day Camp Team, THE THEOLOGY OF SLEEP

September 3, Panel Discussion, "LABOUR DAY": THE WORLD KNOWS WE NEED REST

We do things a little differently during the summer months at Forest Brook. Over the past couple of years we've set some new rhythms that have infused rest, meaning and joy into our summer season as a church family; rest, sharing meals together, and intentional connection.

Rest Sundays: June 30 & Aug 4 - no gathering

On the July and August long weekends, we'll intentionally rest as a community. We will not gather on Sundays June 30 and August 4. We'll use this time to enjoy the summer rhythms of family, friends, and the communities we live in. We invite you to do something that brings your body, mind and soul rest.

note: We will be gathering as usual Labour Day weekend, September 1

Community Dinners: July 2 & August 6, 6:30pm

On Tuesday evenings following Rest Sundays, we'll gather mid week at Forest Brook for a Community Dinner. We'll order the pizza, you bring the sides! All ages and stages.

We'll share in conversation, communion, and hear a short message in the REST series.

Community Dinners create space for a fresh expression of faith in community, are widely inclusive to many availabilities and all ages,

and are a delicious way to 'do church.'

Selah Sundays: July 21 & August 25, 10am

We'll gather facing one another, share ideas, learnings or maybe just our name for the first time.  We know meaningful conversation and connection was important to Jesus, especially when it came to going deeper in our faith.

On Sundays July 21 and August 25, we'll discuss being created for REST.

Summer Sundays for families:

FBCC Kids program will take a more relaxed shape this season.

The Nursery (newborn to age 2) will be open, but not staffed all summer.

Children will be divided into two big groups (Preschool - Completed SK and Grades 1 - 6)  on the following Sundays;

July 7

July 14

July 28

August 11

All other weeks (except Rest Sundays) will be intergenerational worship- all ages together.  Families can find books, fidget kits and instruments in the lobby before heading into the gathering.

 Movie Under the Stars

Wednesday August 21, 7:30pm

Bring a comfy lawn chair or blanket to curl up on, your favourite snacks, and a friend or two. We'll provide the popcorn!!

Meet us on the lawn just outside the gym (East side of the building) and will start the movie when it the sun dips down. (And don't worry about weather if it doesn't look great, we'll move indoors and enjoy the big screen anyway.)
