Roots attach, anchor, absorb, and offer nourishment. They look all kinds of different ways, and grow in many directions but always, roots are the lifeline of the plant. Healthy roots bring healthy growth.
As followers of Jesus we have roots too. We engage ourselves- mind, body and soul- in traditions and rhythms that attach us to our source: the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It is through our spiritual roots that we connect, receive, give, learn and grow.
But the thing about roots is, it’s hard to see them for all they’re worth. (Roots are, after all, underground.) Are the blinders of routine, habit, inexperience or preference stopping us from seeing our spiritual lifelines for all they could be?
