OUTREACH MINISTRIES

Our Outreach Ministries are a big part of the "love others" part of our mission statement.   Because we are being transformed by the incredible love of God, we feel it's pretty important to spread it around.

Our Outreach Council's goal is to foster a missional mindset and lifestyle within our Forest Brook community. Because we know that we are sent to extend the Kingdom of God into the world around us, we offer many service opportunities to our community - locally, in the GTA and around the world.

It is our privilege and joy to support several missions ministries both here in the Durham Region, throughout the GTA and around the world.  Below are some of the ministries that we support as ministry partners, through prayer, service and with our finances.

Local Ministries

Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham
The Pregnancy Help Centre is a non-profit Christian organization that exists to extend the love of God to people who may be distressed due to pregnancy in Durham Region. They are supported entirely by concerned organizations and individuals and their mandate is to provide support to pregnant mothers in need of help. Forest Brook has helped them in the past with financial support, by providing volunteer mentors, conducting a bottle/diaper drive and by hosting an annual Christmas dinner.  They are also one of the annual beneficiaries of our Charity Golf Tournament.

The Refuge
The Refuge is a charitable Christian organization that works with homeless and street youth in the Region of Durham and provides  food, clothing, personal hygiene products, parenting programs, life direction programs, art programs, laundry facilities, and shower facilities. The one thing they strive most to provide is a sense of community in which the homeless youth can heal from their past. Forest Brook has helped them financially, through volunteering in their kitchen, and through providing a monthly meal to their youth.  We have also hosted fundraisers and participated in the "Coldest Night of the Year", the Durham Marathon. Each year we collect mittens and cold weather accessories to be donated at our annual "Mitten Reception".

Young Life South Durham
Since Young Life of Canada began in 1954, staff and volunteers have been leaving their adult “comfort zone” to meet teens on “their turf”. You will find Young Life leaders wherever kids are found… cheering in the stands at a hockey game, encouraging them in school activities, or hanging out at the nearest coffee shop or skate park . Young Life communities strive to create meaningful, mentoring relationships between leaders and teens and to create spaces where teens are listened to, and where questions of life and faith can be discussed. Forest Brook partners with Young Life finanically, by hosting a fundraiser and is moving towards partnering with volunteers and the start-up of a Young Life club at Pickering High School.

GTA Ministries

Urban Promise Toronto
Urban Promise Toronto exists to proclaim the love of Jesus, and to express it through the spiritual, social and educational development of children, youth and families living in Toronto Community Housing. Forest Brook has provided financial support to Urban Promise and its programs, as well as a "home away from home" for their staff teams to have retreats, run programs and learn together.

Youth Unlimited

For 70 years, Youth Unlimited (Toronto YFC) has been imparting God’s love, truth and hope to young people from all walks of life regardless of race, faith, economic level, or cultural background. Historically Forest Brook has provided financial support as well as mentors for the Launch program.

Our Missions Teams

As a church family we have supported missionaries and initiatives in several different countries, both financially and by sending short-term missions teams. We firmly believe in supporting through relationship and have sent hundreds of Forest Brooker's to serve in Jesus' name all over the world.  In the past, we have sent teams to California, Dominican Republic, Guatemala and The Philippines.

Currently, we send regular teams to Honduras, where they work with the Balibrea community, to Guatemala, and to Montego Bay Jamaica, where we work with communities in Top Hill and Comfort Hall.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Our Jamaica Team is a Youth Trip, we take approximately 20 High School aged students each August.  The relationships we have established in the two communities we visit have had life-changing impact on our students.  You can read about some of the impact that this trip has had on our Jamaica Team's blog.
